A generator for your house that automatically provides a backup electrical system that operates whether you are home or away. Within seconds of an outage, it automatically supplies power directly to your home’s electrical circuit breaker box. After utility power returns, the generator shuts itself off and waits for the next outage. It operates on natural gas or liquid propane gas and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit.
Since 1959, Generac has been designing and manufacturing backup power generators for residential, commercial and industrial applications. With the help of partners like Generator Supercenter of Lakeland, Generac has grown to be the world’s largest provider of residential backup generators, selling five times as many generators as all of our competitors combined.
Every home is different, and so is every installation. Getting the right size generator for your home is absolutely essential. At Generator Supercenter of Lakeland our experienced consultants work with you to determine the best generator for your home and needs. The determining factors are based on the electrical load, and what you want to run during an outage.
The average life expectancy of a Generac whole house standby generator is around 25 years of operation under normal emergency standby conditions.
Generator Supercenter recommends looking at replacing between 10-15 years. All though the generator may have relatively low hours on the engine, the other components lose reliability in them. Just like a classic car, it can be a Sunday driver but not recommended in an emergency situation.
The price for fuel will vary by location and consumption by model, but in general it shouldn’t cost more than $4 or $5 per month to run the unit in exercise mode. During a power outage, under 50% load expect to pay around $20-$30/day for gas usage.
Generac whole home generators can be fueled by either Natural Gas or Propane.
At Generator Supercenter of Lakeland we offer turnkey services from design and installation to maintenance and repair. Our packages vary based on model size and specific installation needs at your home. In general packages range from $9,500 – $30,000.
No. The generator fuel costs would be much more expensive than buying power from the utility company since their cost to produce electricity is divided among thousands of customers. In addition, whole home generators are not intended to provide continuous power – i.e. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Generac generators are engineered to be very quiet. They have an average rating of 66 decibels at three meters. It’s very similar to the sound of the A/C running.

An automatic transfer switch is the bridge between your utility company, your standby generator and the alternative source of energy. This is installed along with your whole home generator.
When the automatic transfer switch detects a lull or stop in the flow of power, an outage, it will turn the generator on and switch to the alternate source, i.e. natural gas. Once the utility power returns, the automatic transfer switch will shut off the alternative fuel, the generator and begin supplying your home with traditional grid-based power from your utility.
